Selon l’histoire, le nom Miandrivazo provient de cette citation prononcée par le roi Radama au cours de son projet d’unification des royaumes Merina et Sakalava, deux ethnies malgaches. Ainsi, en vue d’une alliance, il projeta de se marier avec la fille du roi Sakalava qu’il attendit dans ce petit village, raison pour laquelle on appela l’endroit Miandrivazo par la suite. Une des principales particularités de la ville repose sur son climat particulièrement chaud. En raison de sa situation géographique en effet, elle bénéficie continuellement de températures frôlant les 30 degrés à toutes les périodes de l’année.

Aventure sur la Tsiribihina

Miandrivazo est également le point de départ d’une fabuleuse péripétie sur le fleuve Tsiribihina.
